The paper toilet seat cover is standard sanitary equipment in many public and office restrooms, quick, grab one and wrap up your phone!
Columbia University’s Heath Department website posted an article titled Should I treat my toilet seat that suggests public toilet seats are relatively safe and that a paper toilet seat cover is good for peace of mind but not much more. Karl S. Kruszelnicki wrote an article titled Flushing out the truth that details a University of Arizona study which found the office toilet seat to be 50 times cleaner than the average workdesk. How is that for an eye opening revelation?!
Toilet seat covers serve their purpose, they are an extra layer of protection, but they don’t have much to do according to the Arizona University study. The average office phone they tested had over 25,000 microbes per square inch compared to the toilet seats measly 49 microbes per square inch. That’s not a typo and 25,000 vs 49 is like comparing apples and oranges. To sum it up your bottom is clean because it ONLY touches the toilet seat, your hands however touch everything… you really don’t want to know how many microbes are on the bathroom door handle!
The decorative toilet seat cover serves an equally important purpose, pleasure of mind, it makes your bathroom warm and inviting so long as it’s washed regularly. A good buying tip and something you’ll want to remember is to make sure that the set you want is made from mold resistant material. If it’s not you may begin noticing an odor when a few wet hands and bottoms have come into contact with it. Another good idea is to slip a small potpourri scented deodorizing package between the toilet seat and it’s cover for an even better smelling bathroom. Keep it out of sight yet still pleasing!

Hello. I found your website and was wondering if you could answer my question. It has caused a heated debate with many people.
Do you remember anything about decorative toliet seat covers that were the carpet type from the 70’s/early 80’s? But not just for the toilet seat lid, but the actual toilet seat ring!! Do you have any recolection of the carpet material for the part you sit on? I have people denying they existed saying it is unsanitary, yet back then, it wasn’t such a big deal as it is today.
Thank you.
