Toilet Seat - Wacky Warning Labels
Every year for the past 12 years the good people over at Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch have run a Wacky Warnings contest to see who can submit the Wackiest Warning Label. This year the winning wacky warning label is a toilet seat! The toilet seat in question can be attached to the hitch of a vehicle called the Original Off-Road Comode, much like the Bumper Dumper, and Steve Shiflett of Georgia won $500 for submitting the toilet seat’s warning that it’s “not for use on moving vehicles”.
The idea behind the contest is to use humor in illustrating how frivolous people have become in filing lawsuits. Some of my favorite entries from past years include…
- An “Aim-n-Flame” fireplace lighter cautions, “Do not use near fire, flame or sparks”
- A cartridge for a laser printer warns, “Do not eat toner”
- A popular manufactured fireplace log warns: “Caution - Risk of Fire”
- A label on a hair dryer reads, “Never use hair dryer while sleeping”
- A 13-inch wheel on a wheelbarrow warns: “Not intended for highway use”
And the list of Wacky Warning Labels goes on and on. It’s about time a toilet seat takes top prize don’t you think? Company officials were forced to add the warning label to their toilet seat after learning that a consumer had made modifications to their product and was driving around with it on the back of his vehicle. As silly as it sounds the warning label works as protection against a lawsuit but you have to wonder how someone would not be aware they could get hurt using a moving toilet seat…
The contest was sponsored this year by the Foundation for Fair Civil Justice, if you know of a funny or wacky warning label submit a picture of it for next years contest and you just might win $500.00 too.
